The spring is almost here. It’s a time of fresh start, a new life, beautiful colours. It is simply the season of new beginnings. For some of us, it’s a time to turn on a new page and try a detox plan.
After a long winter, when some of maybe slipped from their healthy eating, drunk more alcohol, perhaps slipped from the exercise plan. By early spring, relatively few of us is feeling the best. Detox can change all that, help with the fresh start and put you in perfect form for the year ahead. On the esoteric and energetic level, spring is the perfect time for cleansing, so even if you have never detoxed before this could be the ideal time to try it for the first time.
Cleansing the body has a long list of benefits, even it is not clinically proven yet, the potential benefits are mindblowing.
It can help with bloating, nausea, indigestion. Constipation, cramping and gas could be gone as your intestines return to balance.
It can boost your lymphatic system which can reduce tiredness, puffy eyes, cellulite and blemishes.
Urinary problems, clogged sinuses. All that can disappear with simply cleansing your body!
Don’t believe? Give it a go and see for yourself!
Naturopath Sarah Bowles Flannery says that “Most people who detox experience a marked increase in energy. Often they see a clearer complexion and sparkling eyes. Concentration and mood are improved when you get rid of toxins that may have been affecting brain function and memory. Generally, you can count on feeling much more clear-headed.”
How to detox?
There are many, many ways to take on the detox. From weekend detox to month long life changing detox. The choice is yours.
But most of them are based same on what to eliminate from your diet. You should eliminate alcohol, caffeine, dairy products, red meat, junk and fast food and sugar.
Don’t be scared, this leaves you with a big choice of food!
Eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. Make fresh salads, soups, spring stews and stir-fries.
Fruit and vegetable juices are great to add and on the go. Especially celery, beetroot and broccoli which are amazing for detoxing.
Have two or three servings of protein a day.
Organic eggs and chicken, deep-water fish. Grill or poach chicken or fish or add them to your stews. Add some Brazil nuts to your diet as well (see the last post for the benefits).
Instead of standard tea or coffee choose caffeine free tea herbal teas and dandelion coffee, which is liver supporting. Make sure you drink enough water as well, even more, if you are exercising.
Detoxing your body is about mental health as well, so make sure you find time for yourself, for relax or your hobby whatever it might be. Be genre to yourself, have enough of rest and surround yourself with positive energy!
Let’s give it a go. There is plenty of inspiration on the internet as well as support groups. It’s definitely a great way to start fresh and ready for spring!
